"I teach because I want to help shape the new generations, and I am a firm believer that education can make the change."

Degrees Held:

  • Ph.D. – The University of Texas at El Paso, 2015
  • MBA – The University of Texas at El Paso, 2007
  • Licentiate in Industrial Relations – Instituto Tecnológico de Chihuahua, 1991

Career Highlights:

I started working in academia in 2004 and 2005 at the Universidad Tecnológico de Chihuahua, teaching courses in administration. I later returned to academia for five years at The University of Texas at El Paso where I taught undergrad courses in global business, organizational behavior, human resource management, labor relations, training and development, and compensation and benefits.

In the "real world," I worked in the service industry (restaurant and hospitality) where I obtained experience in the operations and HR areas. However, most of my non-academic experience comes from working in governmental institutions where I was a finance and administration manager.

Also, in the "real world," I have experience as an entrepreneur. I started a small business, specializing in arts and crafts, that I managed successfully for four years.

Which class do you teach online?

Organizational Behavior in Administration, Advanced Human Resource Management.

What do you want your students to take away from class?

I expect my students to: 1) Have the required knowledge to make decisions in an educated manner at a managerial level. 2) Be aware of the importance of keeping up with current events in their field while being able to filter the enormous amount of information available. 3) Critically analyze all information and use it accordingly in their jobs.

Why did you start teaching?

I teach because I want to help shape the new generations, and I am a firm believer that education can make the change.

What advice would you give to your online students?

To succeed in an online class, I would recommend to start working on the first day. For fast-paced courses like these, you must start working immediately and efficiently to not fall behind. Most of the students that struggle with my classes do so because they leave everything to the last moment.

What is the one book you think everyone should read?

"Aztec" by Gary Jennings.

What do you do when you need a laugh?

Play with my kids.

What qualities make someone particularly successful in the business world?

Hard work, openness to different points of views, and continuous learning.
