What do you want your students to take away from class?
Program completers will have the basic understanding of eight standards related to building level leadership – visioning, establishing a positive learning environment, communication, social justice, data literacy, instructional leadership, operational management, and professional development. Students will be evaluated on their competency as an aspiring principal focused on the domains of visionary, relational, innovative, managerial and instructional leadership.
Why did you start teaching?
Like any educator, one has to be energized and inspired by helping students synthesize information into new knowledge. Value in teaching comes when students achieve more than they thought they possibly could.
What advice would you give to your online students?
Online students need to be self advocates. They need to step forward and not hide in the shadows of a course. Their participation and engagement in the content must be a priority if they are to receive the desired outcomes of the course.
What qualities make someone particularly successful as an educator?
There are six non-negotiables behind any effective educator. These are the basic skills needed for a teacher to impact student learning. They are: setting clear learning goals for students, engaging students in meaningful activities tied to those learning goals, sequencing these activities in a way that is achievable for students, soliciting and interpreting overt student responses, evaluating what the students know and don't know, and making adjustments to meet the needs of all students in the class.

"Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" by Robert M. Pirsig.
