Career Highlights:
Hello! My name is Dr. Michelle Bateman and I am an Assistant Professor in the School of Health Science and Wellness at Northwest Missouri State University. I graduated from Oklahoma State University with my Ph.D. in Leisure Studies with an emphasis in Recreational Therapy. I also received my master's in exercise science and my bachelor's in sports management. I am a certified therapeutic recreation specialist (CTRS) and certified through the American College of Sports Medicine as an exercise physiologist (EP-C). I have had the unique opportunity to work with numerous populations both as a recreational therapist and as an exercise physiologist. The populations I have served range from individuals with physical disabilities (primarily SCI, TBI, stroke), intellectual disabilities, mental illness, older adults, veterans and elite Olympic athletes. With all of that being said, my favorite setting to work in was behavioral health. My research interests include assessing the impact of physical activity on health outcomes.
