Which online degree program(s) do you teach?

MSEd. in Reading

  • Why did you start teaching?

I loved learning and still do. Teaching is the ultimate profession in which you are constantly learning new things and facilitating learning with others. I also felt passionate about wanting to give back to my community in a meaningful way, and this profession has provided me with amazing opportunities to do this.

  • What advice would you give to your online students?

Take the time to get to know your peers in the online community and find value in what others are sharing. Additionally, communicating with your instructor as well as your peers will strengthen your learning.

  • What is the one book you think everyone should read?

"Choice Words: How Our Language Affects Children’s Learning" by Peter H. Johnston

  • What do you do when you need a laugh?

I watch kids play and interact with each other. They truly say the darndest things. Spending time with my family and friends also brings me great joy and lots of laughter. I also love watching funny sitcoms like "Parks and Rec."

  • What qualities make someone particularly successful as an educator?

I think people who enjoy being around others make great teachers. People who find joy in learning and teaching others are also successful in this career. Patience and perseverance are also character traits of great teachers.
