A Look at Marketing in Missouri

Missouri residents with a Master of Business Administration in Marketing are fortunate to live in a state with excellent job prospects in marketing, advertising and public relations. The state has two major metropolitan areas — St. Louis and Kansas City — and major employers in suburban areas including Springfield, Branson, Liberty and Columbia. Missouri is also home to dynamic marketing agencies in both major metro areas.

Where Are the Jobs?

Marketing is a vital function in every industry and in every organization. While some firms have large marketing departments, others outsource a portion of their marketing, advertising and PR functions to agencies.

A regional analysis of 55,330 marketing/advertising/PR job postings in 2018 conducted by Burning Glass Technologies reveals that 30,391 of these jobs were located in St. Louis (55%) and 16,989 were located in Kansas City (31%).

As is often the case in this industry, the highest concentrations of Missouri residents in this field are found in metropolitan areas. The most popular jobs requiring more than a bachelor’s degree were sales representatives (6,204), sales managers (2,350), market research analysts, marketing specialists (2,135) and marketing managers (2,019).

Salary Data

The average marketing manager salary in the state is $97,915 per year. Marketing directors earn an average of $134,076 ( – May 2019).

With experience, MBA graduates may become top marketing executives. In Missouri, these professionals earn an average salary of $225,956. According to, “Salary ranges can vary widely depending on the city and many other important factors including education, certifications, additional skills, the number of years you have spent in your profession.”
